Warm holiday greetings to the Homewood school community. It’s hard to believe that the 201 6/17 school year is almost half way through! The Homewood PTA is delighted to continue to play an integral role in the social and educational development of our children in District 153. This, however, could not be possible without awesome volunteers like you.
Whether you served as a book fair volunteer, PBIS WOW cart, graduation gown measurement, provided delicious treats for teachers and administrators, do AVIC presentations, wore the bee costume, helped with or supported our fundraisers, or simply signing up to be a member of the PTA, every aspect of what you do, embody the very spirit of our PTA.
In addition to welcoming our new families, we also welcome new members to the PTA Board who, along with returning Board members, are making tremendous contributions of their time and talent, to see to the effectiveness and continuity of this organization. There are still many volunteer opportunities available.
Our next General Meeting will be January 12, 2017. Special guests will be members of the H-F High School administration, and the H-F Parent Association. Pertinent information regarding transitioning to, and navigating the rigors of high school will be communicated. There will also be opportunities for you to get your questions answered. Please join us.
Thank you all for your continued support of the Homewood PTA. Have a blessed holiday season.
President, Homewood PTA
Reflections is a National PTA arts program that asks students to create works of art in any of the following categories:
The theme this year is “What Is Your Story?”
For the program, students can create as many projects as they like, in as many categories as they like. All entries must be submitted to the Homewood PTA through the student’s local school office by December 1. Projects will then advance through a judging system through council, district, region, state and national levels of the program. Notification of student progress through the levels will occur as updates are received from the Illinois PTA. Official program rules, a student entry form, and a themed poster are attached to this email for your review and use.
A final celebration will occur at SPOTLIGHT ’17 at Millikin University on Saturday, May 13 in Decatur, Illinois. The day will consist of a free celebration of arts for all children in Illinois, and will include arts workshops, Reflections galleries, and student recognition.
My very best,

PTA is in need of volunteers for our Fall Book Fairs next week, November 1st through the 4th!
If you are a paid member of PTA and can help in any way next week, it would be greatly appreciated.
What would you be helping with? We need volunteers to help set up, assist children with sales, work teacher previews, help at our 2 night sales and we need people to help break down the book fair on the last day.
Please click on the links below to see open slots for volunteers and to sign up!
Churchill: (Please note that Churchill runs for a 1/2 day longer than the other schools)
PTA appreciates your help and dedication to helping the children in our district!!
The Homewood PTA is selling KidStuff coupon books. For just $25 you’ll have hundreds of dollars of money saving coupons at your fingertips.
50% of purchases go to the PTA, which uses that money to sponsor many educational programs among our 3 schools.
Your kids have gotten these books to take home for you to see. If interested, keep the book and send check or cash payment in the money envelope provided back with your child to school. If you’re not interested in the book, simply return the item to the school with your child.
Thank you for your continued support of the Homewood PTA.
Come one and all! We want to hear from our valued PTA members. Should the PTA support the upcoming referendum for School District 153? Have your voice heard and your questions answered at a referendum special general meeting!
(Enter by the H-F Sports Complex or James Hart main entrance on Morgan Street)
The kids are all home from school this week and there is snow everywhere. Help the kids beat the boredom and do something other than play on electronics by letting them express their creativity. PTA Reflections is a program from the PTA designed to engage students in the arts.
So what is Reflections?
A new theme to draw creativity out of the students is given each year. This year’s theme is Let Your Imagination Fly and that’s truly what students should do. Students should give their imaginations free rein to develop this idea.
We’re interested, now what?
REFLECT on the theme. CREATE art. BE RECOGNIZED!
Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students are encouraged to submit original works of art in one or more of the following categories:

The Homewood PTA is privileged and humbled to be able to continue to serve Homewood School District 153. As we approach this Thanksgiving season, I would like to take this opportunity to express how thankful I am to the PTA Board members, and the host of other PTA members who volunteer in so many different capacities within the schools. All this would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our wonderful volunteers. Your time, effort, patience and creativity are priceless, and have not gone unnoticed.
Thanks also to the local businesses and other interest groups that have partnered with the PTA to help us realize our goals for our children. Thanks also to the schools administrators, teachers and other support staff. Most importantly, the PTA thanks the schools for affording us the opportunity to be so integrally involved in enriching the curriculum and fostering the well-being of our children.
I wish for you all a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.
Homewood PTA President
