PTA Membership Updates
Dear PTA members, District 153 families, teachers, administrators, and community members,
The Homewood PTA turns 105 this year, and throughout our history we’ve had the great pleasure of helping supply our schools with materials, funds, volunteers, educational programs, and whatever else they may need. While we prefer to keep our focus on the children and schools, money must also play a part in our organization. Due to the growing costs of school programs and materials, as well as the rising dues at both state and national PTA, the price of membership will be going up for the first time in more than 10 years to $15 for the 2018-2019 school year.
This is not a decision we make lightly, but one we found necessary for the health of our organization. As always, every dollar that the PTA takes in goes toward the schools and toward furthering our mission. All members of our executive and general board are volunteers.
As always, we appreciate all of the support and participation that we receive from our families, teachers, administrators and community members. Thank you.
Continuing the Viking Journey…
The Homewood PTA continues with the Reflections program this year!
Reflections is a National PTA arts program that asks students to create works of art in any of the following categories:
Dance Choreography
Film Production
Literature
Music Composition
Photography
Visual Arts
The theme this year is “What Is Your Story?”
For the program, students can create as many projects as they like, in as many categories as they like. All entries must be submitted to the Homewood PTA through the student’s local school office by December 1. Projects will then advance through a judging system through council, district, region, state and national levels of the program. Notification of student progress through the levels will occur as updates are received from the Illinois PTA. Official program rules, a student entry form, and a themed poster are attached to this email for your review and use.
A final celebration will occur at SPOTLIGHT ’17 at Millikin University on Saturday, May 13 in Decatur, Illinois. The day will consist of a free celebration of arts for all children in Illinois, and will include arts workshops, Reflections galleries, and student recognition.
